By Summer Bacon My friend, Tom, and I do a lot of hiking and talking everyday. We stop to smell the beautiful cliff apple flowers, watch ants as they carry objects several times larger than they are, and stand in breathless wonder while watching a raven playing high on the wind currents. Lately we've been checking in on the incredibly beautiful century plant which blooms only once during its lifespan of 30 years. The stalk of the flower looks like a giant asparagus spear, and eventually at the top appears an amazing plume of colorful flowers, starting out a deep orange, and ending up as a vibrant yellow just before the plant begins to die. This particular century plant we estimate has a flower stalk that reaches at least 23 feet high. It has been spectacular to watch. The other day, Tom spotted a chipmunk scampering up a tree. This triggered a memory of a time when I met a little critter called a Sugar Glider. It was the pet of my daughter's friend. Smaller than a chipmunk, Sugar Gliders are like teeny flying squirrels. They are very friendly, and love to cuddle with people. They leap from the counter to the couch, and the Sugar Glider that I met even rode on the back of the family dog. "Have you ever seen a Sugar Glider?" I asked Tom, "They're so cool! When you touch its fur, it feels just like you're touching a cotton ball." Tom grinned and shook his head in amazement. "Sometimes I think some of these animals were brought here by extraterrestrials. Like the kangaroo." Tom is the author of seven books about UFOs and the paranormal, so I heard this as truth, rather than as a joke, although I did giggle. "Yeah, think of the giraffe and its long neck. And the elephant and its sensitive nose," I said. We hiked along silently for awhile, and my mind drifted to thoughts of blowfish, chameleons, and the little Spotted Towhee bird that comes back to my yard every spring and (I swear) sings the opening of Beethoven's Fifth, "Tweet tweet tweet, tweeeee!" And, I thought about how some people would respond to Tom's comment; that he's crazy to suggest such a thing, and "Haven't you ever heard of evolution?" Then my mind wandered to Dr. Peebles, Archangel Michael, the extraterrestrials whom I've encountered, out of body experiences that I've had, ghosts I've seen and spoken to, and fairies! My goodness, life is so wondrous, and I feel so blessed to have experienced so much of the paranormal part of existence. And, as I know from reading many of the comments on my YouTube videos from "haters," there are plenty of skeptics out there who only want to adhere to that which is scientifically proven as their measure of truth. I think that's so sad and so limited. The fact that science has not proven the existence of angels, does not make their existence any less true. It makes me think of the line from the movie "Liar, Liar," when the boy, Max, says to his father, "Just because you've never seen a million dollars, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist." The peculiar thing about the paranormal is that it is such a personal reality. I truly believe that it can only be proven to one person at a time, and it can only be "proven" experientially. When people say they've been touched by Jesus, or were abducted by an extraterrestrial, or saw their deceased grandmother at the foot of their bed, that's experiential, and there is no one and nothing that can take that truth away from them. Someone saying it isn't so, doesn't make it any less true, because once you "get it" on the inside, there's no taking it away. That's why, at my Open Sessions, I always let people know that I do what I do as a demonstration of what is possible when one surrenders deeply to God and Spirit. "If you leave here feeling even more skeptical than when you arrived, that's okay with me, because that means you know more about who you are, and what your beliefs are," I tell my audiences. As Tom and I continued our hike in silence, breathing the fresh Sedona air, feeling the humidity from the accumulation of rainclouds overhead, I began to feel so buoyant in my spirit. I thought of some of my childhood friends who live in California, the ones who poo-poo my work and roll their eyes when I speak of Spirit (I've even had one of them tell me I should get a "real" job), and I felt so sad for them. I wouldn't trade my life of living with the knowledge of Dr. Peebles, ETs, angels, fairies, sasquatch, out of body experiences, ghosts, animal communication, telepathy, energy healing, clairvoyance, chakras, and the possibility of some animals being brought to earth by extraterrestrials, for anything! It's a rich and embracing experience of life that also allows for me to grin and enjoy my friends' well-intended jabs at my work and beliefs. Little do they know how much they are missing! We are here on this earth for such a very short time. At 55 years old, I would be remiss to think I've got it all figured out. I'm just an explorer; adventuring into life, striving to look at it with fascination rather than fear. Instead of striving to make anyone believe my perspectives, I'd rather strive to understand theirs (even if I don't agree). I have found that this helps me to relate to a wide variety of people, without having to be in agreement with them. People feel loved by the acknowledgement of their perspectives and, once acknowledged, will often be more receptive to mine. The Three Principles offered by Dr. Peebles at the beginning of each Open Session are the foundation of his teachings. I encourage you to read and apply these principles in your life. It will bring a fresh perspective to life that is so empowering, where no longer is there a need to change anyone but yourself. Our growth is not contingent upon getting everyone in alignment with our beliefs. It is about being true to yourself (the first principle of, "Loving Allowance for all things to be, in their own time and place, starting with yourself.") It's about then speaking your truth (the second principle of, "Increase Communication with all of life, with respect.") And, it's about accepting responsibility for our lives (the third principle of "Self Responsibility for your life as a creative adventure. For through your choices and perceptions, you do, indeed, create your own reality."). A FREE download of Dr. Peebles' Three Principle is available here on my website.
