“We speak the language of the heart, but you try to understand it with the language of the mind. You can’t fully understand what we are saying until you drop into your heart space,” Dr. Peebles once said to someone who was having a hard time understanding his teachings. He has often said that his teachings are less about the words he speaks than about the fact that he is “pushing energy about.” I notice this especially when I’m editing the transcripts of his teachings. Don’t get me wrong. His words are rich with wisdom, and certainly not unintelligible. This is pretty obvious when reading the transcripts. But, there is something to be said for hearing the words rather than reading them. Sometimes, for instance, he speaks so fast that it’s hard to keep up with listening to the words, and yet somehow it all sinks in, because he is pushing energy about. You can “hear” his words on an energetic level, which brings such depth to his teachings. They become more of an experience, than “just” an education.
In yesterday’s teaching, he talks quite a bit about how we are all energetically and electrically connected. “You are all united whether you want to believe it or not,” he said. I know this to be true, as I have had hundreds of astonishing experiences that have proven this to me. One time I was standing at my kitchen window, wistfully wishing that my neighbors would dismantle the giant, defunct, TV satellite dish that had been sitting there for the five years that I lived in my home. It was an eyesore, but I shrugged my shoulders and said, “Eh, whatever. It will happen when it happens.” I only felt love for my neighbors who were elderly. Literally, just hours later, the dish was being dismantled. Another time I had to make a phone call to the IRS. I was absolutely terrified. As a result of some shenanigans by my ex-husband many years earlier, a rather large tax bill was never paid (he refused to sign the forms that would have allowed us to make easier payments). I finally found the courage to call the IRS about filing an innocent spouse claim. A million what-ifs were tormenting me. What if they didn’t believe me? What if they told me that I had to pay it in full now? What if they seized my bank account? I was a single mom, on a limited income. I was certain that I would be destroyed by this phone call. But, I paused and prayed before dialing. “Dear God, Spirit, please get my call through to the right person, and let them hear my words with the intention in which I express them. I don’t want to be put on hold for hours. I just want to get this taken care of swiftly and lovingly.” Now, mind you, back in the day (2002) it was not unheard of to be put on hold for hours when calling the IRS. I picked up the phone and dialed. The phone on the other end immediately rang. After pushing the correct prompts, I was sent to an agent who picked up the phone and said, “Good afternoon, my name is Summer. How can I help you?” I about dropped the phone. I've met only one two other Summers in my life. I explained my situation and told Summer how scared I was to make this call. She was so incredibly kind, and calmly explained the process for filing a claim. The paperwork came within a couple of days. I filed my claim, and before the end of the month, I won! I was released from liability for thousands of dollars in taxes, months earlier than the process would normally take. I truly believe that if I had tried to manipulate the conversation by hiding my insecurity, going on the defensive, badmouthing my ex-husband, and the many other ways I could have handled that call, the outcome would not have been the same. And, I don’t doubt that my fear would have kept me on hold for hours. In fact, metaphorically speaking, isn’t that exactly what fear does? Instead, Summer and I laughed about our shared name, discovered that we were both born in June, and so much more. Who’da thunk that a phone call to the IRS could be so much fun? Talk about internal revenue! When Dr. Peebles shared about his own earthly foibles in the session yesterday, I thought that was one of the most beautiful moments of all. Owning his humanness and what he learned from it (rather than making excuses for it) became an education for us all. He has been in our earthly shoes, and knows how difficult and beautiful the human adventure can be. And now, a mere 98 years after his physical death, he resides in the 16th Dimension of Understanding, living and communing with a Band of Angels, helping those of us on this school called Planet Earth with our education. If he can do it, we can do it! Ha! As he says so often, “There are no mistakes, there’s only growth.” The more I practice speaking from my heart—the language from the heart—the more beautiful life becomes. My words might come out as words of gratitude pouring from my heart. Or, they might be a rather frank expression from my heart, and might not exactly feel like love to the receiver sometimes. But, speaking my truth, with compassion, is the most loving thing that I can do for me, and for the person I am speaking to. I acknowledge myself and who I am, and share that with others, letting them know who I am, with no shades of gray, no guess work. Every time I do this, I own myself more and more, and it’s so freeing. I have nothing to hide, fear, deny or be ashamed of in being me, and I discover more and more that I really like me. Sometimes we try so hard to get people to like us, hear us, believe us. In closing, I would like to share the words of my dear friend, watercolor artist, family counselor, therapist, author, and student of Dr. Peebles, Thomas A. Newnam, who wrote the following in his book, Try Softer: How to recover your natural state of happiness and clarity of purpose: (page 95) You can know someone else only to the extent you understand yourself. That’s because understanding one human being well—the one you are closest to (yourself)—enables you to gain a natural appreciation and understanding of the general psychology of all humans. Of course, better understanding between and among human beings facilitates more cooperation and harmony in the world.
